Compact Energy Efficient Low Charge Ammonia Refrigeration units (CLAUS)
The objective of the project is to develop a novel energy efficient chiller and heat pump unit using the most efficient refrigerant found today, i.e. ammonia, in the capacity range from 20 to 200 kW. The developed chiller/heat pump unit will be installed in real life situation to compare the concept with a traditional HFC unit.
The objective of the project is to develop a novel energy efficient chiller and heat pump unit using the most efficient refrigerant found today, i.e. ammonia, in the capacity range from 20 to 200 kW. Ammonia has a long and successful history in industrial refrigeration systems but is not really used in ammonia based systems of lower capacity than approximately 200 kW. The developed chiller/heat pump unit will be installed in real life situation to compare the concept with a traditional HFC unit.
- Develop chiller and heat pump concept in medium 20-200 kW cooling capacity range.
- Using natural refrigerant – ammonia.
- Compact unit - lower price – lower charge.
- Low specific charge 0,05 kg/kW.
- Similar price as HFC units.
- Without or with very low suction superheat.
- Chiller/heat pump unit energy savings (23,5%/28,5%) in full load, (31,5%/33,5%) in part load.
- Encapsulate charge inside the unit in case of leakage.
- Optimized total control at all time.
