Dansk superledende tape teknologi 2001-2003
The purpose of this research program is to support the løng-term research and technology development to enable the use of the HTS technology in the years 2005-2010.
The goals for Energy policy in Energi-21 will be promoted, including energy savings, reduced environmental impact, and the creation of a more efficient energy network. The HTS technology has particular løng-term interest for energy transfer between regions and countries, e.g. for the smoothing of renewable and distributed energy production. This project intentionally focuses on the core technologies that have not yet been developed and that will allow the project partners to own and control the technology, and thereby enable the earliest possible introduction and the broadest possible application. Overall technological project goals 2001-2004 (see proposal of Nov. 14, 2000): 1) Increase of the engineering critical current density Je over the next three years from around 6 to around 20 kA/cm"2 (over 5 years up to 25 kA/cm"2). 2) Development of low-loss ac tapes (loss < 0.4 mW/Am at 0.1 T, 77 K, 50 Hz) with Je reduction less than 20%. Project tasks in 2001: 1) Powder: improve precursors (stoichiometry, homogeneity, reactivity etc.), 2) Mechanical deformation: improve filament quality and homegeneity, texture, alignment, connectivity), 3) Mechanical strength: increase mechanical strength (critical stress up to 120 MPa), 4) Electromagnetic: make twisted/stranded and segmented tapes in order to reduce ac losses. Since Sept. 2000 NST A/S and Vaccumschmelze GmbH (VAC) have pooled their R and D resources. The EFP-2001 project has been run in close collaboration with VAC. VAC has received support from the German BMBF-programme
