Simulation package for generation of wind loads applicable for aeroelastic simulations
The aim of the project is to develop a simulation platform for generation of relevant wind fields applicable for aeroelastic design simulations. This is achieved by development, verification, and making available (existing and new) tools for generation of realistic wind fields crucial for wind turbine design.
Concerning already existing models, the task is to include these in a user friendly design complex that can be interfaced to state-of-the-art aeroelastic codes, and verify these to the extend that this is not already done. The required verification will be based on a modified laser-Doppler anemometer, allowing 1 Hz scanning of a wind field with a spatial resolution of the order of 100 points in a cross section. The measuring method will be used to calibrate the Taylor-advection velocity as well as to verification of predicted spatial gust structures. Concerning models to be developed within the project, these are models considered as a necessary supplement to already existing simulation tools in order to obtain the full benefit of these - e.g. models for rational determination of gust amplitudes associated with arbitrary types of gusts. Moreover, the developments include modeling of inhomogeneous turbulence, which is considered decisive for load modeling of the future big rotors
