Experimental buildings with new building envelope constructions

Institut for Bygninger og Energi (DTU Byg)

There is a great need for the development of new building envelope constructions with more insulation and less thermal bridges to comply with the expected new increased demands. This development work has been going on for a couple of years.

Project description

It is expected that the thermal insulation demands in the Danish Building Regulations will be increased by 33 % around 2005. There is for that reason a great need for the development of new building envelope constructions with more insulation and less thermal bridges to comply with the expected new increased demands. This development work has been going on for a couple of years. The main aim of the project is to: 1) Strengthen the development of better building envelope constructions. 2) Show good examples on the integration of windows and installations (floor heating and ventilating system) in the new types of building envelope constructions. 3) Validate the performance of the developed constructions. The project will be carried out by constructing a series of experimental buildings where the developed constructions are to be used. The buildings will be instrumented to determine the dynamical performance of the constructions can be determined under realistic outdoor-climate conditions. The results of the project may be used in the development of new building envelope constructions since experiences from the experiments could be applied in future development-projects. At the same time, the results could serve as an inspiration for the producers of standard houses and the Danish building industry in general
