Energy savings, industrial pumps

The aim is to establish the technological basis of a reduction of the electricity consumption within the field of industrial pumps. The use covers a wide range from irrigation, heating and cooling plants, district heating, water supply, and pumps for the process industry.

Project description

It includes pump sizes from 1 - 120 m3/h within volute housing and multistep pumps. If the project targets as regards total efficiency is reached the electricity saving based on the number of pumps installed in Europe today (8.5m) will correspond to the annual Danish electricity production (37 TWh). The most essential savings will be due to jumps in the total pump/motor efficiency and to the adaptation of the motors to controlled operation. The project is divided in phases and will include theoretical and experimental work within the fields of pump hydraulics, motor technology, clarification of necessary manufacturing technologies, and upgrading of agencies which should know of the saving possibilities, for instance consulting engineers, decision-makers in the private and public sectors. Co-operation with university departments in Denmark and in other countries will necessary to accomplish the research task
