The validity of the assumption of Gaussian turbulence
1) To investigate whether the commenly used assumption about Gaussian (normally distributed) turbulence is valid, and possible consequenses of deviations from Gaussianity on load calculations, that generally would be estimated too low using the Gaussian assumption.
A recently compiled very big database of fast sampled timeseries of windspeeds (JOULE-project) will be used to investigate the importance of the problem. 2) To hold two workshop, whereby results from the investigation described above will be used to familiarize Danish windturbine manufacturers with the database. Expected results: 1) Well-founded statistical description of the amound of deviations from Gaussianity for atmospheric turbulence. 2) Modelling of the shape of velocity probability distributions. 3) Estimates of the practical consequences of the deviations from Gaussianity on the magnitude of wind loads. 4) Good working knowledge about the use of the JOULE-database after the two workshops
