Clean and efficient biomass utilization for production of power and heat. Phase 2 of a long-term strategic research project
The 2. phase of the project includes two areas: I) Combustion of straw and wood on grate and II) Emissions and flue gas cleaning.
The purpose of the project is to improve the technical basis for use of biomass for production of power and heat, with emphasis on clean and effective processes. The project, which is second part of a long-term, strategic research programme, includes two areas: I) Combustion of straw and wood on grate. The activity involves participation in full-scala tests at Masnedø and possibly Ensted in order to investigate the effect of choice of biomass fuel and to analyze correlations between operating conditions and emissions. Based on these results and small-scale batch experiments, a model will be developed for biomassfiring on grate, emphasizing scaling effects, burnout and emissions. II) Emissions and flue gas cleaning. It is investigated how gypsum producing wet desulphurization processes respond to changes in limestone and fuel quality, in order to ensure high flexibility in fuel quality as well as high quality of residues. Furthermore it is investigated if there are any effect on the NOx-emission. The project will involve systematic tests in pilot-scale, laboratory reactors and mathematical modelling
