Project in the area of process integration
The goal of this project is to clarify to which extent the indirectly fired gasturbine (IFGT) in the future can be expected to contribute to the production of power and heat from biomass.
During recent years, the developments within materials, design of heat exchangers and technology of gas turbines have probably fortified the position of IFGT relative to the most likely competitors (Biomass fired steam turbine, biomass fired stirling engine, gasification gas fired otto-engine and gasification gas fired stirling engine). The project will also deal with alternative system configurations. The project consists of four parts. This division is meant as a reflection of the distribution of the work effort and not the amount of time. Activity 1: Literature survey. This consists of collection and evaluation of relevant literature within the sub-fields: Gas turbines, heat exchangers, gasification of biomass and combustion of biomass. Activity 2: Establishment of a special mathematical model for the studies of a simple design for indirectly fired gasturbine (IFGT). The purpose is to make a comparison between previous results at the Department of Energy Engineering and dk-TEKNIK. Activity 3: Continuous accumulation of knowledge especially for heat exchangers, gas turbines, gasifiers and furnaces. Activity 4: Application of a fully developed simulation tool. (Dynamic Networks Analysis) for simulation and analysis of different IFGT-configurations. These will be the main activities of the project
