Dewatering to high dry matter content
A mobile dewatering unit with a maximal dewatering pressure of 800 bar has been designed and built.
The dewaterer is equipped with computer based pressure and position measurement and an online measurement of the mass of the water that is pressed out of the sample that is being dewatered. The attached laboratory can analyse the manure. The dewaterer and the laboratory is working and initial tests have shown that there are considerable differences of the dewatering behaviour of different substances. Fresh and digested manure have been dewatered and showed that the fresh manure could be dewatered up to 45-50 % dry matter and digested manure up to 55-60 % dry matter. Strawchar with a particle size below 1 mm could be dewatered up to 68-69 % dry matter. The results from the project have been used to design and build a low price high pressure dewatering device with a maximal pressure of 200-500 bar and a capacity of 25-100 kg dry matter pr hour. The dewatering device can be operated so that a fraction of the substance that is being dewatered is pressed out together with the liquid. This fraction is 'splatty' and can be recirculated to the digester. It is to be investigated if this fraction can raise the gas yield
