TOBRI - High energy densified briquettes from torrefied biomass
In the following are show the different work packages. After each the timing and goals are shown: WP1 Screening test and optimization of basic parameters for efficient densification of torrefied biomass. Tests are conducted in laboratory and test facilities of DTI and CF Nielsen and will provide necessary basis for the design of the new briquetting machine. Timing 01-04.2011. Goal: Postive test at DTI and CFN. WP2 Definition of requirements for the torrefied briquettes suitable for transport, handling and utilization at power plants. An essential foundation for securing the acceptance of this new product is that acceptance from market actors is gained. Timing: 02-06.2011. Goal: Approved design specificaiton. WP3 Design and development of the novel briquetting press. Timing: 04.2011-07.2012. Goal: Finished design and testing of briquetting press at CFN. WP4 Construction and manufacturing of a prototype. Timing: 06.2012-01.2013. Goal: Positive test at demonstration site. WP5 Test and demonstration of the novel press. By co-operation with a producer of torrified biomass at a temporary demonstration plant we will secure sufficient torrefied material for the tests. Timing: 01.2013-10.2013. Goal: Launch at Ligna 2013. WP6 Test of the produced briquettes according to potential customers requirements (including power producers). WP7 Market introduction
Today no commercial technology exists to densify torrefied biomass, so the purpose of this project is to develop a high capacity briquetting machine that can densify torrified biomass at the same time achieving low production and capex costs
