Development of system solutions for energy-extensive building envelope renovation of existing buildings and the demonstration on 3 typical detached houses from the perod 1960 - 1980

The project's aim was to develop system solutions to extensive additional insulation and air tightening of the building envelope in the renovation of existing buildings and to develop methods for the preparation of package solutions that can help homeowners with design and decision making process incl. concrete proposal for total refurbishment and price quotes.

Results
 The developed solutions and methods was demonstrated in three typical detached houses representing the 500,000 houses built in the period 1960-80 to show that the building envelope renovation can be performed with great aesthetic quality, a fair economy and high energy savings. Development of solutions to existing 1960/70 detached houses was a special focus area of the project and was used for the demonstration project. The houses have gradually become 30-50 years old and are facing renovation / replacement of basic building components: roof, windows and walls. They are popular and the supporting structures are generally in good condition so that demolition and new construction is not obvious. These homes represent a large energy saving potential and it will be crucial for any climate initiative that society promotes a response towards these buildings. Solutions for the 60/70' houses are in a considerable extent also relevant to buildings of different type and age
