Single Blade installation in high Wind Speed
Interruptions of installation/uninstallation of wind turbine blades due to high wind speed are a huge cost for the wind industry, especially offshore. The objective of this project is to be able to do single blade installation/uninstallation for offshore turbines, when the mean wind speed is 14 m/s and the peak wind is 21 m/s.
The modern wind turbines are always located in high wind environments to generate the most power output. However, this complicates the installation/uninstallation operation of the wind turbine parts. The objective is to increase this limit for some of Liftas blade yokes. The main goal is to be able to do single blade installation in 14 m/s mean wind speed and with gusty wind at 21 m/s.
The yoke is equipped with speed and with a number of taglines and winches to control the taglines. To achieve optimum control it is essential to choose the right tagline concept and control strategy. The project will develop from a scaled system where different control strategies and concepts will be evaluated. With the knowledge from the scaled system a full scale model will be developed including control strategies. The full scale model will be evaluated by the use of advanced analysis tools. Based on the full scale model a final tagline system is specified and sold to a customer for onshore installation with focus on offshore use. Finally the tagline system is implemented on minimum 2 blade dragons.
