Energy efficient High-Tech fluegas filter for solid biomass boilers
The purpose of the project is the development of a filter system for straw-fired biomass boilers up to 3 MW or more in order to reduce gas emissions free of ash and sod particles. The idea is to secure the continuous use of straw-based boilers at new EU-standards for emission-level. The new technology has a lower energy consumption and longer lifespan than existing technologies.
The project will develop and demonstrate a new type of filter for the purification of flue gas from straw heated boilers and smaller power-plants. The project will develop a relatively inexpensive and fully reliable filter that can meet stricter requirements for particle emissions from biomass-fired boiler plant. These requirements are described in the EU standard EN303-5. It is expected that the emission must not exceed a maximum of 60 mg of particles per. m3 of gas from biomass fired boiler for installations up 500 KW and will also involve larger boilers.
The invention will be a breakthrough in the boiler industry and ensure a sustainable use of biomass from straw in the future living up to the new requirements for particle emission and the overall political goal of a 100% renewable energy by 2050 in Denmark.
The work program will focus on designing and construction of demo prototype adapted to a boiler plant. The project will carry out test runs and adjustment and develop a protocol for the measurement of detergency.
The project has a strong commercial focus. But it will also contribute to solve the need among other Danish (and EU) boiler companies securing jobs for the industry.
