IEA Bioenergy-Task 37: Energy from Biogas
The project ensures Danish participation in the international biogas network IEA Bioenergy Task 37: Energy from biogas in the period 2014-2016m aiming international exchange of newest research results and technological knowledge in biogas area, as well as expert assistance to decision makers, for environmentally sustainable and cost effective development of the biogas sector.
IEA Bioenergy Task 37 is a part of the international Energy Agency – IEA (www.iea.org), which is a permanent international partnership whose purpose is international cooperation dissemination of knowledge and research results in the area of biogas based energy production. The main objective of the Task 37 work is to address the challenges related to the economic and environmental sustainability of biogas production and utilization and to disseminate the result for the benefit of the Task 37 member-countries and of the biogas development in general. The growing biogas sector faces sustainability challenges, which require subsidies to be able to compete with the fossil energy sector. There is a need to share international knowledge about optimization of the process steps in the biogas production chain in order to reduce investment and operating costs and to increase sustainability. The focus of Task 37 on process optimization, started in 2010-2012, will be intensified in the period 2013-2015. Other major objectives refer to providing technical biogas expertise to member countries, plant operators, politicians and decision makers by exchanging and disseminating the newest knowledge and research results among the task member and non-member countries. The task activity is carried out as a joint project of the participating members: Brazil, Denmark, European Commission, Finland, France, Netherlands, Ireland, Norway, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Sweden, South Korea, Germany and Austria. The Danish participation in the IEA Bioenergy Task 37 offers a strong international network and expertise built up on behalf of the Danish biogas sector and Danish biogas industry. The project results are disseminated through the project website www.iea-biogas.net, in the form of publications, case studies and technical reports as well as through regular task meetings, conferences, research workshop and seminars, study trips, newsletters and the member’s national networks.
