Integration of Renewable Energies by distributed Energy Storage System

The project will analyze the role of distributed energy storages in future energy systems. The goal is a more economical efficient integration of renewable energy. The project secures Danish participation in Annex 28 in IEA´s Energy Conservation through Energy Storages (ECES9 program.

Project description

IEA ECES (Energy Conversation Through Energy Storages) is an executive committee for activities according energy storage technologies within IEA. Denmark was an inactive member for some years but has been active since 2013.
Annex 28 has economically efficient integration of renewable energies (wind, PV, solar) by distributed energy storages as main topic. Distributed storages can be all types of storages (water storages, batteries, ect.).
There are both national and international reasons for Danish participation in Annex 28. In Denmark the RES % is expected to rise gradually until 2050. Integration of more and more renewable energy can be done in many technical ways, depending on the present energy system, electricity transmission connections abroad, possibilities to make consumptions and production flexible and storage of energy (electricity) ad heat, in electrical storages or converted to gas or liquid.
The main topic in Annex 28 is to analyze how this can be done in the economical most efficient way.
Internationally Denmark is interested to know how these systems calculations with distributed storages are carried out and how the foreign energy system are expected to be combined in the next years and in the long run. Partly lo learn how to optimize the Danish Energy system and partly to be aware of possibilities to export Danish system solutions and components to system solutions. Annex 28 has Dr. Andreas Hauer, ZAE Bayern and Dr. Christian Doetsch, Fraunhofer IVERS as operating agents.
