Power Pack WIND
Because these hours are incoherent and unpredictable, a constant availability of power is imperative and as a result the generator has to be operating around the clock. Thus Power Pack will contribute to create a less environmentally harmful installation through greatly reduced diesel consumption.
Because wind turbines are not complete in the installation phase, and because ocean cables are not installed, offshore turbines cannot generate the power necessary in the installation period. A traditional generator uses 1000 liters of diesel per week, resulting in 2.6 tons of Co2 emitted per. week for each turbine during installation.
Always running on a low load causes the generator to waste large amounts of energy - a waste that is continuous throughout installation.
Furthermore the project will derive numerous other positive effects: Power Pack can reduce the environmental impact in terms of reduced Co2 - less diesel consumption in the generator and a reduction of the service needs of the generator from service every 250 hours to a single service every 6 months. This will greatly reduce the consumption of the diesel required to sail to and from the turbine.
When conclusory developed and tested at Siemens Wind Power, Power Pack WIND will be ready for market late 2019 to the benefit of the industry as a whole. Main work packages are:
- Knowledge platform and specifications
- Development
- Internal tests
- External tests
- Communication
- Certifications and documentation
- Dissemination and report
