Establishing a new IEA working group on battery electric ships (IEA TCP HEV Task 38) as well as continue Danish participation in the IEA working group on hybrid and electric vehicles TCP HEV 2017-2020)

The objective of a new IEA e-ships Task, is to strengthen focus on this climate friendly technology with global perspectives and to ensure that Danish knowledge is in the absolute forefront.

The objective of continued Danish participation in IEA E-mobility corporation is to ensure Danish access to newest insights, including in e-cars, e-busses, e-trucks, e-ships and more integrated, shared autonomous e-mobility solutions.

Project description

The objective is to support that Danish competences, companies and knowledge are engaged and placed in the absulute forefront of e-Ships and e-mobility technology and its development towards the market.

E-Ships will be especially useful for shorter routers and near traffic in harbors, harbor cities and islands. Potential e-ferries in Nordic countries are estimated to more than 200 and in Europe to more than 1000.

Main Activities

- Continue active Danish participation in IEA Hybrid Electric work

- Lead the new Task 38 on e-Ships

- Development of method and concept for yearly data collection and dissemination

- 3 international workshops on e-Ships, at least 1 in Denmark

- Developing Task 38 and IEA e-Ships Casebook

- Task 38 and e-Ships newsletter every 6 months

- Global e-Ships technology, environmental, market potentials and economy overview

- Development of key figures and standard values

Objectives for energy technological and commercial outcomes of the project

- Help place Danish competences, companies and knowledge in the forefront

- More Danish and international e-Ships projects with Danish participation

- Document and showcase Danish strengths in the technologies

- Investigate relation between e-Ships and autonomous ships, eg. in concrete projects

- Understanding and segmentation of climate and market potentials for different types of e-Ships
