HyTon – world’s largest hydrogen compressor
HyTon is to develop the world’s largest hydrogen compressor, capable of dispensing renewable hydrogen for zero emission cars, busses and trucks at large scale. The increased capacity is to enable achieving of hydrogen fuel price parity with gasoline and diesel, which will allow for a widespread market deployment of hydrogen fueling stations.
The HyTon project is to develop the world’s largest hydrogen compressor with a capacity of 1,5 tons per day sufficient for fueling of 400 cars (Light Duty Vehicles / LDV) or 25-50 busses and trucks (Heavy Duty Vehicles / HDV) and facilitating further connection to renewable hydrogen production.
HyTon will increase the capacity and durability and simultaneous reducing cost and footprint through implementation of a novel and patented hydrogen compression technology developed by the project partners since 2011.
The HyTon advancements will enable renewable hydrogen fuel to reach price parity with fossil fuels at the customer point (pump) and address the increasing global market demand for hydrogen infrastructure technology for fueling of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV).
HyTon targets a following commercialization of the developed hydrogen compression technology for the growing hydrogen infrastructure markets in USA, Europe and Asia. Also HyTon will capture technological spill-over potential in other markets such as green synthetic fuels and offshore where similar material with low friction, long lifetime and high strengths are needed. Furthermore HyTon is also to expand the material science basis in Denmark at the participating research institutions.Key figures
