eSMR-MeOH: Biogas to MeOH by electric reforming

The project will demonstrate the eSmr-MeOH technology in an industrial relevant siza to enable commercialization after the project. Combined with techno economic evaluations, this will elucidate how the process enables cost competitive conversion of biogas into methanol with high efficiency and minimal CO2-emissions. 

Project description
The novel eSMR-MeOH technology is a prospective solution for produktion of sustainable methanol at cost cempetitive prices. The novel new electrically driven steam methane reforming technology (eSMR) is compact and has a low capital investment. In a grand vision, eSMR-MeOH could be the enabling technology that will allow for producing methanol in periods where sustainable electricity is available in excess. The eSMR-MeOH technology will enable produktion of sustainable methanol as a platform molecule for chemicals and fuels production. In addition, eSMR alone will be a new synthesis gas production platform. 
The project is a collaboration between Haldor Topsoe A/S, Aarhus University, Sintex A/S, Blue World Technology ApS, Technical University of Denmark, Energinet A/S, and Aalborg University, who combined make up the entire value chain for the technology. This team will demonstrate the technology in industrial relevant size in a 10-40 kg/h methanol pilot plant for upgrading an actual biogas. Also, a tchno economic process integration evaluation is made. By completion of the project, the technology will have matured for immediate market integration as an original route for sustainable feasible methanol production.
