DLTEC - Demonstration of LifeTime Extension Concept
The purpose of this project is to test/demonstrate the proof of concept of the developed lifetime extension concept for offshore wind turbines. It is expected that by using the developed concept it will be possible to extend the lifetime of the prototype with 20 years. The test/demonstration will be made specifically on the Vestas V80-2.0 MW wind turbine, but the lifetime extension concept is made generic and can be used for different kind of turbines.
Lifetime extension or repowering (installation of new wind turbines) versus decommissioning of offshore wind turbine will be one of the most important topics in the wind turbine industry for the coming years. The offshore wind energy sector is almost 30 years old and today offshore wind turbines are installed or planned in 51 countries globally. At the end of 2018 the installed offshore wind energy capacity in Europe was 18.499 MW. This is the total lifetime extension market potential for the forthcoming 20 years.
Prior to this project R&D Group A/S (Henceforth: R&D) will in corporation with Vattenfall develop a lifetime extension concept. This concept will contain guidelines, methods, tools and processes which aim to make lifetime extension of offshore wind turbines for up to 20 years possible. This project will focus on testing and validation of this lifetime extension concept. The lifetime extension concept includes new technical solutions and products which are necessary for the practical implementation of lifetime extension and re-certification of offshore wind turbines.
