Brændselsceller til maritim brug som erstatning for olie-drevne generatoranlæg

The marine fuel cell APU project will design a modular APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) solution for the Maritime market. The solution will be a multipurpose and highly adaptable solution that can be used in a great variety of vessels and applications.

Throughout the early phases of the project the technical boundaries will be established leveraging the input from the project partners in terms of design, functionality and operability of the system and subsystem. Furthermore, project partners will enable integration of the system and subsystems into the different marine settings.

Project description

In the Marine fuel cell APU project a highly efficient, fuel flexible, cost-competitive, modular, and scalable 200kW methanol fuel cell system will be developed and demonstrated for auxiliary power generation on larger sea vessels. With high scalability, the solution can replace large combustion power generators of up to 5MW. The developed solution will ensure reduced carbon dioxide emissions and elimination of all harmful emissions, from the power generation process.

The solution will be designed for easy user interaction and rapid implementation on both new- or retrofitted vessels and to match durability and lifetime expectations. The fuel cell APU will be tested and demonstrated onshore for a period one year in the world largest maritime test centre facilitated by Alfa Laval to ensure and validate fit and functionality before initiating sea trails. From a socioeconomic perspective, the commercialization of the Marine fuel cell APU is expected to generate 434 new job positions specifically for the involved partners and additional job positions in the maritime ecosystem (shipyards, e-fuel productions etc.).

The Marine fuel cell project will establish Denmark as a stronghold for innovation, development, and export of sustainable solutions for decarbonization across the maritime industry.
