EUDP 2020-II BIM, Method and Benchmark guidelines for building LCA (in IEA EBC Annex 72)
An intensified focus on construction's embodied climate impacts has made Danish participation in IEA EBC Annex 72 particularly relevant. With this application, funding is sought to strengthen Danish participation in this project. The purpose is to actively contribute to the activities that focus on BIM integration, guidelines and benchmarks.
The last 2-3 years have led to increased focus on the application of life cycle assessments (LCA) in the construction industry at Danish and European level. This increased focus is mainly due to the growing aware-ness of global climate change. In Denmark, the year 2020 marks the introduction of LCA in the voluntary sustainability class. The Minister of Housing has announced that the sustainability class is expected to be introduced as a requirement for all new buildings and major renovations within a few years after the test phase. The rapid development in is not only taking place in Denmark, as a number of European countries have or are in the process of introducing, more or less voluntary schemes to regulate the construction's overall environmental impacts and resource consumption.
International mapping and harmonization of methods, concepts and procedures are at the core of the ongo-ing IEA EBC Annex 72 project. BUILD-AAU is currently leading the subtask 3 activities about collection of case studies. This application concerns a funding proposal for a strengthened contribution in the additional Annex activities, which can significantly contribute to the authorities and industry’s relevant areas of devel-opment concerning LCA harmonization, benchmarking and digitalization of the built environment.
