Renewable Dynamic Distributed Ammonia Plant (REDDAP)
Dynamic and distributed ammonia plants can create new markets and demand whilst bolstering demand for existing products including turbines, ammonia plants and subsequently creating jobs for the Danish economy.
Dedicated focus on systematic cost reductions and optimal use and reduced need of curtailment of renewables power produced in high penetration markets around the world. This is an excellent starting point for commercialization of Danish Power-2-X technologies to keep a global leading position.
Demonstration of a dynamic operating ammonia synthesis which is powered directly by wind and solar behind-the-meter. The flexible ammonia plant will be able to operate from 5% to 100% load without a hydrogen storage.
Design of a control system on an overall plant level for green ammonia production, which will coordinate all subsystems and interact dynamically with the dispatch system and allow for grid balancing.
The process design is made with a minimum of emissions and with possibility of integrating district heating. The environmental approval is ongoing and proceeds as expected. The first revision of the plot plan is made. All projects partners have started on their work packages. There will be a kick-off meeting in August.
A draft consortium agreement has been distributed to the project partners and once agreed and signed the long lead items can be procured.
The results gained from this project will also provide important insights and data for Danish policy makers and for the transmission system operator for the green transition. Green ammonia will play an important role for decarbonizing the fertilizer industry and the maritime sector.
