IEA Wind Task: Airborne Wind Energy

The purpose of the present project is to support and boost the collaboration and knowledge sharing between the Danish and international wind energy research communities within the emerging field of Airborne Wind Energy

Project description

The present projects support DTU Wind Energy’s collaboration and knowledge sharing within the emerging scientific field of Airborne Wind Energy (AWE) in the international IEA task on the subject on an international level.

The research within AWE in this IEA task aims at reducing the risk and overcoming initial issues that hinders the growth and commercialization of the concepts. The intention is to help remove the roadblocks that lie on the path to lowering the cost of renewable wind energy significantly. The huge potential of harvesting wind energy with airborne devices has been shown previously, but several issues need to be tackled before this can be realized.

In the present project DTU Wind energy will work, collaborate and share knowledge with the top institutions in the field in three main categories: Wind Resources, AWE System Architecture and Performance models and Design Tools. Apart from these, which each have their own work package, there is a work package for project management and dissemination.
