Integrated DEsign of floating wind Arrays
The purpose of IDEA is to establish reference site conditions and wind reference wind farm designs for floating wind turbines. The project follows the international IEA project on wind farm design and contains a strong Danish dissemination effort.
Floating wind farms will enable offshore wind energy to expand globally. The technology is currently at a demonstration stage and evolving towards industrial exploitation. To this end, a massive research and development effort is needed, where knowledge exchange and common definitions is a must.
The EUDP IDEA project meets this need by definition of standardized reference met-ocean conditions and wind farm designs. It covers the Danish contribution and participation in the IEA task of the same name.
The Danish contribution comprises supply of state-of-the-art met-ocean conditions from DHI. Next, for the reference farm design, DTU contributes through application of its reputed TopFarm and HAWC2 models. The project results are made publically available. The Danish research effort of IDEA will thus contribute to the global output of the IEA task while promoting Danish know-how.
As a third element of IDEA, a strong dissemination effort is directed towards the Danish Offshore Wind community. The project results will be shared at three open workshops in interaction with the projects follower group of Siemens-Gamesa Renewable Energies, Stiesdal Offshore Technologies and Ørsted.
