Project description

The aim is to develop a sustainable method for energy renovation of masonry facades. The solution must respect the aesthetic qualities and robustness of the façade so that the dwelling and urban qualities are maintained or improved. The focus is on brick apartment buildings built 1930-1980.
The goal of the energy savings is a potential of 2 PJ by 2020.
The goal for the commercial benefit is to translate the renovation and maintenance backlogs into business for Danish companies, while the value of the properties is maintained or increased. The concept is based on the demolition of existing brick facing. This is replaced by a new slim brick wall, which allows for more insulation, while only increasing the façade thickness minimally.
Work program:

  • Assessment of the heritage value of building, to decide whether it is safe to demolish the façade
  • Static conditions while the outer leaf is demolished
  • Process. A rational approach should be developed
  • Total economy. In addition to the cost of renovation included future maintenance, property value, energy savings, avoided costs of mold renovation and urban environment.

Demonstrations will conducted by the concept of a suitable floor property designated by AAB in collaboration with the architect. The performance followed closely by including video documentation, evaluation of impact and dissemination of results.
