The main objective of this project is to advance the overall accuracy of the existing aero-hydroservo-
elastic computer codes related to offshore wind turbines and their substructures. This is
achieved through benchmark simulations of important load situations, compared to measurements
ranging from model test to full scale measurements.

Project description
This project enables Danish participation in the Internal Energy Agency task 30 project named
Offshore Code Comparison Collaboration, Continued, with Correlation. The scope is to establish a
forum where newly developed aero-hydro-servo-elastic codes can be benchmarked. Previously two
other projects have been carried out under IEA Annex 23 and Annex 30. In these two projects,
aeroelastic code simulations were compared for offshore wind turbines under increasingly more
complex conditions. This has been very effective and ensured that initial bugs in the simulation
code have been captured at early stage and that uncertainties have been highlighted. An important
motivation is that there is a high representation of both code developers and end users, and that
improvements are directly incorporated in the tools used by industry. It is a project that ensures a
high international exposure and impact. The unique thing about this new project phase is that the
benchmark phase will be expanded by inclusion of both experimental model data and full scale
measurements. This converts the project from being a verification project to a validation project.
This is a significant extension compared to the two previous code-to-code comparison phases and
has been requested in general by both industry and participants.
