IEA WIND Task 42 - Lifetime Extension Assessment

This project enables Danish participation in the IEA Wind Task 42 Wind Turbine Lifeitme Extenstion Assessment. Danish universities and commercial service providers are members of the task and will have influence on the decisions taken in the task, especially towards the standardization of lifetime extension. The participants will support the work og the IEA WIND Task, contributing to the IEC standards on lifetime extension which is presently under development, producing reports and data sets collections to verify lifetime extension procedures and reduces its risk. The knowledge transfer facilitated vy the IEA WIND Task will contribute to lowered cost of energy for the Danish wind energy insutry through robust management of end-of-life scenarios for wind farms.

Project description
The objectives of this EUDP project ar elcosely mirroring the IEA WIND Task 42 Lifetime Extension Assessement in terms of all its obejctives, Work packages (WP) and deliverables. The objectives of the IEA Wind Task on wind tubine lifetime extension are to coordinate international reasearch activities towards the assessment of the remaining operational life of wind turbines nearing the end of their certified design life and identification of strategies for extending the useful life. This will be done through research activities for determining the probability of failure of differnt wind turbine components upon continued operation updating the statistical basis using avaliable information from operation and measurements up to the time for the decision on lifetime extension, examination of procedures that demonstarte the feasibility for life extension, the requirements for maintenance and to recommend findings to international standards and regulatory bodies. The objective of this EUDP proposal is to coordinate the Danish influence on the IEA Wind Task collaboration, both bringing the long experience of Danish partners into play and to work with the others around the world. The partners in this task have significant experience on the above topics and also have analyzed measurements from many commercial wind farms.
