Danish Participation in a new IEA SHC Task - Deep Renovation of Historic Buildings towards lowest possible energy demand and CO2 emission (NZEB)

Institut for Byggeri, By og Miljø

The main purpose of the IEA SHC Task is to demonstrate the possibilities regarding deep energy renovation of historic buildings in achieving the lowest possible enerdy demand and thereby CO2 emissions. The knowledge generated by participating in the IEA Task 59 including a database with case studies will result in an increased number of deep energy renovation projects for historic buildings.

Project description

The key objectives of the IEA SHC Task 59 "Deep Renovation of Historic Buildings towards lowest possible energy demand and CO2 emission (NZEB) are to

- develop a solid knowledge base on how to save energy in renovation of historic and protected buildings in a cost efficient way

- identify the energy saving potential for protected and historic buildings according to typologies of building studied (residential, administrative, cultural ,,,)

- identify and assess replicable procedures on how experts can work together with integrated design to maintain both the heritage value of the building and at the same time make it energy efficient

- identify conservation compatible retrofit solutions in a "whole building perspective"

- identify specifically the potential for the use of solar energy (passive and active, heating, cooling and electricity) and promote best practice solutions

- identify the policy and markering strategies to implement the energy saving potential

- demonstrate good energy solutions in exemplary case studies.

The project outcome will contribute to reduce the gross energy consumption in the existing Danish building stock and thereby help to achieve the overall energy policy goals.

The outcome of the project may contribute to the basis of a future EU Directive on the energy performance of historic buildings.
